Strategic Alliances

The story goes that two boys had been friends since high school.  They went on to be college dropouts together.  However, they eventually gained considerable exposure to the computer world while working on game software together on the night shift at Atari.  You may know them better as Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs.

The world is full of infinite possibilities and countless opportunities, but your life and career are finite, — meaning you only have limited time to find what you’re searching for and to make your mark on the world.  This is YOUR TIME.  It’s limited, so don’t waste it.  Find something you enjoy doing,– find something you’re really good at, and if God is smiling on you, they’ll both be the same thing.  Real entrepreneurs often start that way.

That is how I started back in high school when I met somebody with similar life goals.  We relentlessly pursued our dreams, and ultimately found business success together.

Super Summer hiring

By now, if you haven’t already,– you should be thinking about hiring for this summer. When you do, consider my innovative system of getting the best injection of exactly the right employees for your company.

My technique of “group interviews” minimizes your need for time-consuming individual interviews, and enables you and your management to evaluate applicants in a relaxed,– yet competitive environment.  This 2-hour process allows you to see and hear the candidates in a more natural state, where the true personalities come to the surface by the interaction of the whole group.  This is my personal system developed over years as a franchisee for the four Cold Stone Creamery ice cream stores I owned and operated from 1998-2008.

When I opened our first store in Glendale California in 1998 (among the first 50 stores opened), I first tested this unique style of applicant screening.  When our sales numbers hit unprecedented levels, the Arizona Franchise executives took notice,– as did the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the LA Business Journal.  When I told them how we were able to hire the most energetic and dynamic staff, my technique got video-taped and distributed to every new CSC opening store across the country and internationally.   This led to nearly 2000 ice cream locations just 10 years later.

An ongoing positive attitude is the necessary first ingredient for a recipe of success in business, as well as in your personal life. I have lived my life with that driving passion, but I find many others professing the same without practicing the mindset. People need to not just post a bunch of motivational quotes on Facebook,– but take a proactive stance with each rising sun of making a positive difference in other lives and your own accomplishments. It cannot be done with words. It takes action. Every day!

How Can We Appeal to Millennials?

Most Millennials tend to ignore certain social media that does not fit their current lifestyle and/or purchasing priorities. There are forecasts that YouTube’s net U.S. video ad revenues will hit nearly $2.6 billion in 2017, accounting for 20% of total U.S. video ad revenues. The most recent data reveals Millennials are responding less and less to the ads forced into this network.
Millennials have become slightly more accepting of Twitter advertising over the last three years. Marketers are discovering what catches the attention of Twitter users. These studies are being analyzed as the data comes in, and is forever changing with the landscape of social media platforms.
It has been determined through surveys that Millennials who respond to Facebook ads has risen in recent years. The exception to this is sharing ads, which has fallen steadily since 2014. Average of all interactions reach almost 33%. This information needs to be factored into many marketing decisions.
Some of these facts and survey results correlate with the findings that have found approximately 30% of people sit through an entire YouTube ad.

Summary
The “jury” is still out on whether the vast amount of advertising dollars spent on digital ads in social media marketing is being wasted or not. Many of the messages likely get through to Millennials,– but only if delivered in the desired manner. It appears the preferred format for this group is content marketing.
The secret is to not market to them directly, but to sell through ideas, referrals, and peers that they have faith in. They respond most favorably to friends, family, and the best sources of social news and trends.
Therefore, it is critical that content gives Millennials something for their attention, time, and loyalty to your product and/or services. If you genuinely seek to educate them to what you are offering and how easily they can acquire it,—they will certainly reward you with their business. Give them value and honesty, and they will support whatever you are trying to sell them.
Conclusion
Marketing to Millennials is growing more important with each passing year. They are now the most sophisticated and discerning audiences on the Internet. How they perceive all forms of social media advertising will determine whether they turn it off,– or turn towards it. The key will be providing dynamic images, ideas, and valuable content to their buying experiences.

Who Has the Most Buying Power?

 

A recent social media survey showed that an average of 33% of Millennials (those born between 1980 – 2000) have increased their time spent on Facebook over the last year.  Less that 24% said they decreased their time.

Predictions can be inferred from that survey to encompass at least a confidence in the existing Facebook platform that the same audience is likely to see the same social network ads and branded content in the near future.  That logically should lead to better brand awareness and recall.

Facebook took about 13 years to slow down developing new features, but Snapchat got to that same point in just over 6 years.  Based on some market surveys, Snapchat use increased the most among social networks. There are still limits on this platform that do not indicate any explosion in usage coming anytime soon.  Good marketers keep a close eye on each social network, and how and what features are being added.  Each upgrade changes time spent online by the various categories of audience.

Who benefits most from any new feature?  You can always prepare for expected changes in the interests of your target audiences by ramping up your advertising and content strategies on that particular platform. Don’t just react to change,–be preemptive with your marketing.

It has been found that a large percentage of Millennials who watch YouTube ads skip them if they can, or they employ ad blockers.  This means that most in this age category do not fully view the ads that advertisers spend lots of money on.

The main takeaway from these facts should be to design everything that promotes your business to be fresh, creative, and specifically appealing to the age group your most want to target.  They are out there ready to use your product or services, but you must light the fuse to their explosive purchasing firepower.

 

Millennial Marketing

Just when the marketing experts believe they have nailed down the ideal types of ads and content that perform best on a particular social network, –the user base often shifts  This can require rethinking content strategies. Smart marketers must anticipate social networks adding new features, and thus changing the landscape of usage for various target categories.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Social media professionals must know where their audience currently hangs out online.  Then they must surmise where they may be headed next.  This is best done by analyzing past trends that can then help to predict future change on different platforms.

The average consumer tolerates digital ads, but they don’t necessarily respond with satisfactory results for the advertiser. This dictates creative and dynamic approaches to anything utilizing traditional techniques of bygone ads.

Millennials (those born between 1980 and 2000) now make up 25% of the world’s population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That means that approximately 1.8 billion people worldwide are Millennials. It is now estimated that Millennials finally outnumber Baby Boomers.

This reality means Millennials possess purchasing power that should be mined by the smartest of social media marketing strategies. It is also estimated that Millennial shoppers spend $600 billion each year, and by 2020 that amount is expected to grow to $1.4 trillion (30% of total retail sales).

Millennials can be considered the first truly digital generation. There are even strong indications that this shopping group goes online even when they are in stores!  This fact alone shows the need to target their purchasing behaviors.

We all know the problems, but we spend way too much time talking about them and not enough about how to solve them.  Smart businessmen talk solutions.

Know what’s wrong, and learn to fix it.  Use every available moment to find a better way, a cheaper way, or a more profitable way to do whatever needs to be done.  Wake up thinking of solutions, and go to bed dreaming of solutions.

Problems get solved THAT way!

Peril of Procrastination

In business, whatever “needs” to be done should be finished NOW.  Success will not wait for you, so you must be ready whenever opportunity crosses your path.  You will never know what might have been missed by even a slight delay in action.

Consider what Donald Robert Perry Marquis [1878-1937] said, “…procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday.”

…or Edward Young [1683-1765],– “Be wise today; ’tis madness to defer.”   And,..”Procrastination is the thief of time.”

Ponder those words when you go to work tomorrow.

Starting the Year Off Right

Now is the time to make plans, adjustments, and goals for 2017.  These must be specific in nature, and be the result of assessments of last year’s results (or lack thereof).  It is often helpful if you include someone close to your business for collaboration, but if you are the owner, — YOU must determine your company’s direction for this upcoming year.

These items you identify must be written down and referred to daily.  There needs to be an urgency to your work, and a fierce determination to your goals.  The more dedicated you become to your plans for development,– the more successful your efforts will become.  This has to be a concerted effort to elevate your attitude towards greater accomplishments.  This will automatically transfer to your work force.

You may consider a motto for your company.  I did long ago.  Mine is; Think BIG, and Have Fun.
